FunCats are the Ultimate Way to Enjoy Waterfront Living

FunCat electric catamarans are relaxing, chaise-lounge-style, battery-powered, pontoon boats. They are super simple to use, and maintain. FunCats are perfect for any leisurely water activity, and they are especially perfect for waterfront communities.

Waterfront living is the ultimate leisure lifestyle. From marinas and bays to lakes and rivers: living in or renting waterfront homes allows homeowners and vacationers to experience the laid-back lifestyle and freedom that being on the water creates. Walking out of your door and jumping into the water or visiting your neighbors from your boat are just a few of the perks.  BBQ’s on the lake, fireworks over the water, boat parades, private fishing, swimming, and relaxing in the sun are daily events when you live in a waterfront home. FunCat electric catamarans are the perfect vehicles for waterfront homes. They are simple: children and adults alike quickly learn the control system. They are stable, and safe, and they are unique. They cruise nicely at a speed of 4mph without noise or environmental pollution. The chaise-lounge style seat has two reclining positions, and can hold up to 500 lbs. (227 kgs.). The armrests have built-in cup holders, and the pontoons have dry storage compartments. An optional, convertible bimini provides shade; and a new fishing rod mount allows for complete relaxation, while you wait for the fish to bite! FunCats are so simple: to charge one— just plug it in— to bring one on shore— just use the handles and pull it up.

FunCats are great for waterfront properties, waterfront homes, and waterfront vacation rentals. They allow for travel along the water without the hassle of heavy boats, gasoline, and hard-to-learn navigation systems. The recessed propellers, and 16” draft keep the FunCat safe from damage. They are approximately 300 lbs. (136 kgs.), and incredibly easy to transport.

FunCats are also great to rent. They are already available at many locations around the globe. You and your loved ones can take a FunCat for a spin today. Check out our locations here

If you or someone you know lives in a community on the water, the FunCat is the solution to your water travel, and leisure needs. The time is now and the price is right! Order today and receive free shipping up to $500 within the continental U.S.

Fun! Bucket List Survey

What is a bucket list? This is a question we have been pondering lately. Recently Lesley Carter wrote a Blog about her experience at Sea TREK with Sharks in Atlantis Paradise Island Bahamas. Her blog is called bucket list publications and she is a travel writer who experiences many ‘bucket list’ activities and regales her adventures to her large group of followers.

This bucket list check off — for Lesley — was very scary because she did SeaTREK with sharks. Imagine coming face to face with a beautiful, mysterious shark while you are standing on the floor of an immense aquarium. That’s is exactly what Lesley Carter did. You can read her experience in her own words here.

So what is a bucket list? A bucket list is a checklist of all of the things you’d like to do before you —Well— kick the bucket. Reading more about bucket lists, and thinking of what our bucket list items are has made us ask the question: What does an individual include on his or her bucket list?

Some things are goal oriented for example: run a marathon, lose weight, or get a doctorate, while others are based on possession: own a house, restore a 1966 Ford Mustang, or buy a horse ranch. Then there is always travel and experience: Eat gelato on the Spanish steps in Italy, Sea TREK in Gran Canaria, Spain, Swim with Sharks in Jamaica, or ride a FunCat in the Gulf of Mexico. But reading about Lesley’s experience made it very clear that a lot of people are highlight facing their fears as an essential qualification for a bucket list item. Whether it is an extreme sport like base jumping and hang-gliding, or swimming with Stingrays, and SeaTREK helmet diving in the open ocean— facing your fears is empowering, invigorating, and a definite frontrunner for bucket list planning. Who would not want to face their fears before they kick the bucket?

Be sure to check out our bucket list Pinterest board and see if you can find some inspiration. The first step to a bucket list is to write down your goals. Pinterest provides a very beautiful application for a visual reminder of your dreams. Try it out, and follow SeaTREK’s boards while you are at it.

Love Stories and Romantic Proposal concepts in honor of Valentine's Day

To get you in the mood for Valentine’s Day — which is just around the corner, FYI — Sub Sea Systems is sharing some incredible stories, romantic concepts, and a variety of unique products that can make any proposal extraordinary.

Sea TREK helmet diving programs —worldwide— have had the pleasure of being involved in some spectacular proposals.

In 2013, happily in-love couple Denise and Brad attended Coral Con and decided to visit Discovery Cove Orlando. Brad arranged for the two to snorkel and swim with dolphins, and planned a special surprise for the end of the day– a SeaVenture tour with a little twist. The couple entered the SeaVenture area, excited to try Sea TREK and explore the incredible Grand Reef. Their excitement continued throughout the tour as they interacted with stingrays, schools of fish and other unique animals in the teeming reef.  Near the end of the tour Brad motioned to the Guide that he needed to borrow his magnetic writing board. Denise had a fleeting pang of anxiety as she thought something was wrong with Brad… until he wrote, “Will you marry me?” and got down on one knee. Being unable to speak to him, she took the board, quickly swiped it clean and wrote one word… “YES!” Read more about this sweet proposal here.

Sea LIFE Manchester — one of Sea TREK’s newest locations — also had the opportunity to be a part of a surprise underwater proposal. The staff was clued into the plan several weeks before it actually happened… and on the day of the event, they were almost more excited and nervous than the gentleman, Andy, himself!  Caught on video, the starry-eyed couple is seen experiencing Sea TREK in the unique Sea LIFE aquarium, as they’re surrounded by hundreds of fish, several sharks, rays and even the infamous, camera-hungry ‘Ernie’ the giant green sea turtle. As the lovers reach the end of the tour, before exiting, their Guide stops them and pulls out a large message in a bottle. Andy takes the message, unrolls it and holds it out for his future-bride to read. It says, ‘Kate, Will you marry me?’ The couple embraces (kissing with their Sea TREK helmets on) and in a classic “OKAY” hand signal, Kate shows the camera her answer. Spying from the other side of the acrylic, the rest of the Sea TREK staff members cheer with joy, some even teary-eyed. It was an emotional, exciting day for all involved! Watch the video, and maybe you will decide a Sea TREK proposal is the right way for you to pop the question!

Marriage proposals are very special. They signify the start of a shared life, the combining of families, and are a testament to true love. If you are struggling to come up with a special memorable way to ask that very important question, Sub Sea Systems has some really wonderful products to help make that moment especially unique.

Sea TREK is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you want to pull out all the stops and inundate your future fiancée’s senses, Sea TREK is an extraordinary way to accomplish this feat. Your fiancée will be fascinated by the patterns of light streaming through the water’s surface, sparkling on the sand. He or she will be virtually weightless walking on the bottom of the sea, with cool air blowing on his or her face. Effervescent bubbles will create musical sounds, and the sea life will swim all around stimulating sight and touch. This is the moment to fill your fiancées heart to the brim! Propose in this underwater realm, and you can be certain that the moment will be one they’ll never forget… AND how could he or she say anything but YES!

If you’d prefer to stay above water, our FunCat electric catamarans also provide a unique and romantic environment for your proposal. Imagine relaxing, cuddled up next to your loved one as you sway in the gentle waves. The blue-green water reflects glittering light, as the sun warms your skin. What an intimate and peaceful setting to pop the question! Whether you and your fiancée go fishing in the quiet of dawn floating on your FunCat, or you ride the FunCat to a secluded beach with a picnic, it is clear FunCat electric catamarans allow for private moments on the water… and the possibilities are endless! A proposal on a FunCat guarantees you and your fiancée will be the only two people in that special moment.

Announcing The 2013 Sea TREK Operator of the Year — Sea TREK De Palm—Aruba

Last week Sub Sea Systems announced our Sea TREK operator of the year. After careful consideration of all of the outstanding operators, we narrowed it down to a select few… and then nominated Sea TREK De Palm—Aruba as the 2013 award winner. This annual award is determined based on Sea TREK operators' tour quality, staff excellence, innovation, community outreach and complete commitment to the Sea TREK program.

Sea TREK De Palm excels in all of these areas. Their tour creativity and innovation is inspirational. The location boasts an abundance of wildlife including: green eels, eagle rays, sea turtles, squid, and a colorful variety of reef fish, sea stars, and anemones. The location has been enhanced unequivocally by the sinking of large, decommissioned vehicles. In addition to a large bus and an airplane, Sea TREK De Palm has an underwater café complete with wine bottles. While the novelty of these additions makes the tour more entertaining and distinctive, the vehicles also take pressure off of the natural coral reefs in the area. The enhanced environment stimulates new reef growth, attracting a variety of sea creatures, and fueling prosperity for the local businesses and employees.

Enhanced environments, such as sunken vehicles, give sea creatures — big and small — a place to live. The ocean is teeming with life, but the abundance is seen most clearly in a reef environment. The eco-system allows for a vast variety of creatures to live in symbiosis. The vehicles give a basis for the growth of many varieties of coral, anemones, and sea fans. These creatures provide homes for a richness of fish, and sea animals. ‘Artificial’ reefs take pressure off of the natural reefs by allowing many species to grow their populations without exhausting natural resources.

The artificial reefs allow for the local economy to grow as well. The eco-tourism brings prosperity to the island, and spreads awareness about ocean conservancy and reef preservation.

Sea TREK De Palm has also faced many challenges this past year, and has confronted them with confidence and innovation. Due to recent local construction and mud runoff Sea TREK De Palm’s dive site had extremely low visibility, causing inoperable conditions and weeks of canceled tours. Instead of succumbing to the challenges, Sea TREK De Palm took the opportunity to seek a new location, and plans to develop a site on the opposite side of the island. The new location features a sandy pathway and beautiful coral ‘trees. ’ The crew also plans to open another underwater café, and a variety of new surprises along the way. Sea TREK De Palm hopes to continue to use their original location when conditions allow.

Sea TREK De Palm had a record month in July with over 674 TREKKERS. The staff is always receiving fabulous accolades, and the tour is renowned as a “must do” on the island.

Ranked #2 on TripAdvisor, with over 2,600 5-star ratings, participants share:

“Sea TREK is phenomenal!”
“We decided to do the Sea TREK underwater walk…Walking along the
ocean, interacting with the animals and seeing the sights was one in a million.”
“…Experience of a lifetime and would do it again and again.”
“By far one of the most amazing things I have ever done!”
“Simply fantastic! Thank you so much… or should I say ‘masha danki!!!’”

Congratulations Sea TREK De Palm—Aruba! We cannot wait to see your new location!

The Stingray Bay Program — Swim with Stingrays!

Imagine: You are going to see stingrays. Correction: you are going to swim with stingrays!

You have heard about Steve Irwin the crocodile hunter, and how a stingray was the cause of his death. You have also heard good things about stingrays, so you decide to sign up for the Stingray Bay Program. You and a group of others file into a briefing area that sits in front of a beautiful shallow ocean lagoon. People of all ages (even kids as young as five!) are waiting along with you. You can feel the nervous energy in the air. You feel a sense of fear trickle down your spine, and wonder if you should have signed up for a different activity. Just as you think you can’t take the tension any longer, a stingray trainer walks out into the center of the stingray pool and welcomes everyone to Stingray Bay. He starts out by addressing the fears that are on the forefront of our minds.

“Stingrays became very popular in September 2006, after the incident that caused the death of the famous Croc Hunter “Steve Irwin”. Today you have nothing to be afraid of, because we have surgically removed the barbs from our stingrays, so we can guarantee that this is going to be a very safe experience.”

He then holds up a stingray’s barb, while other crewmembers pass around similar barbs for you to examine.

“The barbs look just like this one; the pain they cause is considered to be number 10 in the countdown of the worst pains ever felt by humans.”

“If you look closely, you can see where it is in the tail that the barbs normally grow.”

“Stingrays do NOT attack people, but I would like to give you guys a tip, so you don’t get hurt by stingrays if swimming or walking in stingray infested water. Just do what we call ‘The Stingray Shuffle’, and the stingrays will steer clear.”

As he is saying this he is gently holding a stingray. He then begins to point out the anatomy of the beautiful animal.

“Now we can see the eyes located on top of their heads. Right behind the eyes there are two holes called spiracles, and they are used for breathing.”

He turns the stingray on it’s back!

“Here you can see: the mouth, the gills and the sexual organs.”
He rubs the docile creature’s belly!

“…And enough talking, let’s make small groups to enter the water, and follow the trainers’ instructions.”

You split into small groups of four and enter the water with a trainer leading the way. Half of you stand to the right of the trainer and half to the left. The trainer hands out some fish.

To you he says, “Please feed the stingray!”

and to everyone else, “Please pet and feel the stingray’s skin.”

You find yourself fascinated, and the creature seems to enjoy the attention. The trainer points out all of the stingray’s organs, and explains their behaviors, habits, and the importance of their existence. He also talks about Reef Alliance and ocean conservancy. You begin to pet the tips of the stingray’s wings. They seem to respond to your touch, and their velvety slick texture is so different than anything you have felt before. You completely forget your fear, and feel an intense connection to these beautiful animals.

You then get to pose for the photo of a lifetime! A true token of the experience! The trainers release everyone for a time of free swim and snorkeling with the stingrays. You watch them fly through the water with their velveteen wings, and as you exit the pool you swear that the stingrays are waving goodbye. Your euphoria follows you home, and you spend hours regaling the story to your family and friends, but the words are not enough. You plan to bring everyone you know back to Stingray Bay.

Stingray Bay strives to increase education and awareness about stingrays through its entertaining, hands-on interactions. In general, the public’s fascination with stingrays is also marked with trepidation and misunderstanding; often intensified by media hype, movies and common misconceptions. Such feelings cause many people to ignore and/or avoid these remarkable creatures. In an attempt to dispel these false fears and instill a new wonder for stingrays, Stingray Bay encourages its guests to actually interact with these animals—hands-on!

During the experience, guests can touch, pet, swim with, and feed these intelligent fish. As participants spend time with the animals and face their fears, they also learn about the rays’ eating habits, anatomy, habitat, and the importance of the animals’ roles in their eco-systems. This intimate introduction between guests and stingrays provides a significant connection for the guest, increasing their knowledge and compassion for the animal.

Participants have shared that the experience is emotional; their poignant interaction with the rays leads to a newfound respect and appreciation. Each and every guest walks away with the knowledge that stingrays are peaceful and playful creatures. As they say, knowledge is power; and the benefit of spreading knowledge to Stingray Bay guests results in a powerful trickle down effect. The knowledge and enthusiasm shared by our guests disseminates to friends and family back home, creating greater awareness, appreciation, and ultimately strengthening conservation efforts for these incredible animals.

Here is a list of locations that offer the stingray interaction program. Check back for announcements about new locations opening soon!
