The Gift of an Experience
This Holiday Season give the gift of an experience.
Since 1998, Sea TREK has offered its guests an unparalleled, unforgettable experience. It is an activity that is often on people’s “bucket list”… and with over 50 locations worldwide (and more than 2.5 million guest experiences), Sea TREK is one item that can be easily and successfully crossed off that list! So why not add it to your own “bucket list”?! Or better yet, give the gift of a Sea TREK tour to your loved ones this holiday season. The gift of that first breath underwater for a non-diver (even a non-swimmer) is something that will never tarnish, or become worn out… the memory will last a lifetime. Share the underwater realm with your family and friends; walk on the bottom of the ocean or in an enormous aquarium while holding hands with your loved ones. What better gift than a memorable, shared experience?
If you want to give the perfect Christmas gift, don’t buy another tablet that will be outdated in 2 months, or another doll that will end up in the bottom of the toy chest– give the gift of a memory. Share the time with your family, while experiencing something completely new and outta-this-world!
There are many exquisite Sea TREK destinations to choose from, and we have new operations opening all the time, all around the world. Did you know? Sea TREK is a popular cruise excursion, as well as an interactive tour offered at many aquariums. Each location offers a unique perspective and tour. Some locations offer Sea TREK with sharks, stingrays or even dolphins (Dolphin TREK)! Other locations have created amazing, flourishing dive sites with many wonders to be discovered, such as sunken airplanes, buses, and more. A handful of locations are within vast aquariums teeming with manta rays and thousands of fish, some even have sea turtles and moray eels as permanent residents. Wild octopuses, squid, barracudas, sea urchins, dolphins, sea lions, starfish, and sea horses are just a few of the creatures that have been spotted (and photographed) in our open water locations. Imagine the memories you can create!
There are some amazing deals going on at several locations! Check out the deals below:

'Sea'sonal Fun and Sustainable 'Sea'son DIY
The Christmas season is here and Sub Sea Systems is ready to celebrate! We love getting into the spirit of the holidays by playing Christmas music, decorating the office, and even dressing the office dogs! We also look forward to our yearly visit with Mia — Sub Sea Systems’ Elf on the Shelf, and this year we want to share some fun ‘SEA’sonal DIY projects that we really love, as well as some wonderful ideas on how to reduce, reuse and recycle this holiday season!
Follow Sea TREK® Helmet Diving's board Sustainable 'SEA'son on Pinterest.
Our oceans need our care, and the best way to do that is to keep trash from EVER reaching the sea. Last year Reef Alliance wrote a ‘Guide to a Sustainable Season’ with creative ideas on how to reuse and upcycle! We created a Pinterest Board to share all of the unique ideas that we found, and have continued to pin to the board throughout the year; sharing resourceful ideas that will keep trash out of the ocean and landfills, while adding a little sparkle to your holiday season (not to mention helping you save some money!). A favorite and useful idea is reusing packaging to box gifts. For example: a box that held instant oatmeal was used to contain a hand knit beanie. Of course wrapping paper makes it more beautiful, and what better than old newspapers? Who doesn’t love typography with red ribbon?
During our research we also came across some ingenious ideas to help you ‘upcycle’ common goods that otherwise may have ended up in the trash. If you haven’t heard this buzzword before — ‘upcycling’ means to make something better in its second life. For example, these cute light bulb snowmen ornaments — for a tutorial look at this website — or these twisted icicle ornaments made out of plastic bottles (Click Here).
A fun DIY project— that has practical and frivolous uses, and embodies the holiday season, while tying in the sea theme — is a rosemary wreath. You can find fresh rosemary at any grocery store, or purchase a rosemary bush for a reasonable price at a local home improvement store.
What you need:
Rosemary
Wire
Ribbon
Seashells, sand dollars or star fish
Wire cutters
Here are the steps:
1. Create a circle using wire.
2. Using thin wire tie together rosemary sprigs in bunches of three.
3. Attach the sprigs around the wire circle until it is filled. If needed use additional sprigs to hide wires and empty spaces.
4. To add ocean flair, attach a simple starfish, seashell or sand dollar.
5. Choose a festive or patterned ribbon to hang your wreath.
6. Hang where you want to add a fragrant decoration, and add a little ocean-holiday flair.
7. After the holidays are over, and the wreath is dry, collect the rosemary leaves and store them in a jar.
8. Use the rosemary to make a balsamic glazed salmon.
We really love this project because it adds fragrance and festivity while also remaining useful after the season is over.
Follow Sea TREK® Helmet Diving's board SEAsonal Fun on Pinterest.
Happy Holidays! Be sure to follow us on Pinterest! We have created a ‘Sea’sonal Fun board where we have added holiday and ocean themed ideas for decorations, gifts and more. We also have added a lot more to our Sustainable ‘Sea’son board for inspirational ideas to upcycle this Christmas. And we have started an Elf on the Shelf board for fun and creative ideas of which any elf would approve.
Do you have fun ‘Sea’sonal DIY projects that you would like to share with us? Do you have silly stories about your Elf on the Shelf? We look forward to reading them in the comments below.

IAAPA Attractions Expo 2014
IAPPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) is an organization that brings together leading professionals in the parks and attractions industries. From offering resources on their website to educating aspiring students in the workings of the business — IAAPA has a lot to offer, but the yearly event — IAAPA’s Attractions Expo — takes the cake.
The IAAPA Attractions Expo allows suppliers to display their technology and latest innovations for theme park, waterpark and various industry ‘buyers.’ From roller coasters to park lighting, every part of the entertainment experience can be found at this one event. Innovators, small businesses and huge companies network in this creative, state-of-the-art expo. If you can imagine thousands of innovative people presenting their technological inventions specifically made for the amusement park industry, you can partially understand the exciting and mesmerizing event that is IAAPA’s Attraction Expo.
This year IAAPA’s Attraction Expo had over 9 miles of aisles spanning inside and outside spaces. Sub Sea Systems was able to find some exciting products that will help in the production of Clear Lounge, but more importantly Jim Mayfield (Owner and CEO of Sub Sea Systems) and Hannah Mayfield (Director of Marketing) were able to meet with various companies, including: Sea World’s Aquatica, Royal Caribbean, Disney, Discovery Cove, and Dolphin Discovery. The presentations focused on Clear Lounge and were well received.
In addition to presentations, Sub Sea Systems also met with Kodak to discuss photo solutions for the Clear Lounge underwater photo booth. “The product they presented seems absolutely perfect for us, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with Kodak,” said Jim. At an IAAPA event in 2000 Sea TREK (another product by Sub Sea Systems) and Kodak won an award for the most foot traffic at an IAAPA booth. The combined effort of a man-sized aquarium, a SeaTREK underwater model, and Kodak’s underwater camera made quite a spectacle.
Other new innovations that caught our eye included products from Water Gush and People Vison by Technifex. Water Gush is a completely innovative, interactive, lighted, fountain system. Their beautiful, colorful, water shows are dazzling, however the Water Gush innovators take it a step further, and set their product above the rest. Using a smart phone, spectators can interact with the fountain — controlling the colors and fountains’ motions. Users can even produce a volcano effect by shaking their phone! People Vision is a projection system that projects a video of an animated face onto the inside of a given object. For example: a Benjamin Franklin dressed mannequin has a face that moves, speaks, shows expressions and simulates the real deal. AZ Light also offered the latest technology in RGB, LED lights; a perfect accent lighting solution for Clear Lounge that is low cost, energy efficient, and creative. We look forward to developing our ideas with these companies.
All in all IAAPA’s Attraction Expo was a major success for Sub Sea Systems. We look forward to having our own Clear Lounge booth at a future Attractions Expo. It was a busy, fun event that sparked our creativity, provided solutions, and forged relationships that will grow our business. If you do not know about Sub Sea Systems’ products you can visit our website at www.subseasystems.com. To learn more about clear lounge visit www.clear-lounge.com.

A Halloween Treat — Creepy Creatures of the Sea
This Halloween Sub Sea Systems is sharing a special treat… or is it a trick? We are revealing some interesting facts about our favorite creepy creatures of the sea. What is Halloween without a little tremor of fear? Read on for creepy chills and thrills as you learn about five horror story stars of the deep.
The Portuguese man-of-war may look like a colorful, beautiful jellyfish, but it is actually a colony of tiny polyp like creatures that take on different functions and work together in a group. The creature has venomous, pearl-like strands, which reach an average of 30 feet in length, and inject their prey with a strong toxin. The venom is deadly to small fish, but to humans the results depends on the location and severity of the stings, as well as the age, and skin thickness of the individual. Shock and death are rare, but possible. The creepiest thing about the Portuguese man-of-war is that they are virtually invisible at night, and they lurk near the surface with their 30-foot stinging chains trailing in the black sea. Beauty, deception, and venom — ingredients for the perfect Halloween story.

The vampire squid gets its name from its blackish color and its webbed cloak-like tentacles. It is not quite a squid or an octopus; in fact it is the last in the vampyromorphida order. The creatures lurk in deep, dark waters, where they utilize their ‘cape’ to capture oxygen, and they release phosphorescent particles to distract predators. The insides of their tentacles are lined with fleshy spines, and they will turn ‘inside out’ to escape dangerous situations. They have ear-like fins that propel them, and they only reach about 8 inches in length. The creepiest thing about the vampire squid is its photophores. Photophores are light producing organs — a great asset for creatures who live in the deep, dark sea. The vampire squid has a large pair of these behind its fins, which it uses to confuse predators into thinking it has disappeared into the dark. Vanishing eyes, webbed ‘capes’, and luminescent fairy dust — sounds like a creepy creature to me!

or watch this creepy video:
Deep sea anglerfish are creatures straight out of a nightmare. They live in the dark black depths of the ocean, and lure their prey with a bioluminescent-bacteria filled, maneuverable appendage that protrudes from their heads. Anglerfish have long sharp teeth that are angled inward to avoid losing any prey. Their large jaws and expandable stomachs allow them to devour enormous meals. The creepiest thing about the anglerfish is the way it reproduces. The female is very large (5 inches long and very round) in comparison to the very small male (the size of a little finger). Once the male finds a female he latches onto her with hooks that protrude from his mouth, and becomes a parasite stealing her nutrients. Dark, clingy male… alluring female — nightmare material for certain.
Learn more about the anglerfish here:
http://www.seasky.org/deep-sea/anglerfish.html
Or watch this disturbing video:
The goblin shark gets its name from its strange and bizarre appearance. Goblin sharks have long, flat, trowel-like noses. Their ‘noses’ have electro sensors, which help them find prey in the inky black depths. When they bite, their jaws expand dramatically down below their ‘nose’. Their teeth are like long curved needles and the goblin shark can use them to make a grasping motion when it bites. The most disturbing thing about the creature is that: combined with all of the rest of these terror-inspiring facts — the creature is thin-skinned and pink, with easily bruised fins that take on a blue hue…. Reminiscent of a certain cave-lurking, movie character — “My Preciousssssss!”

http://scribol.com/environment/goblin-shark-the-most-demonic-shark-on-earth
Or watch:
Do not let the name fool you; the northern stargazer is a disturbing creature that gazes eerily skyward to find its next victim. The northern stargazer buries itself beneath the sand in record time. Its face is on the top of its head, and that is all you see after it hides in the sand. The creature’s face (when buried) resembles an eerie human skull with bulging, rolling, staring eyes. After it buries itself it just waits… staring, and waiting for some unsuspecting little fish to swim over its strange face. Then it vacuum sucks its prey into its mouth. If that is not enough it also has the ability to deliver an electric shock to stun and confuse its prey. To a fish, the stargazer is the monster under the bed — waiting quietly to feed.
Can’t get enough of the stargazer? Check out this website:

The creepiest thing about the anglerfish is the way it reproduces. The female is very large (5 inches long and very round) in comparison to the very small male (the size of a little finger). Once the male finds a female he latches onto her with hooks that protrude from his mouth, and becomes a parasite stealing her nutrients. Dark, clingy male… alluring female — nightmare material for certain.

The Goblin Shark

The Northern Stargazer
