Our employees and their families meet at one of the locations near our lakes and rivers, and we pick up trash, debris and all kinds of stuff (a car bumper, a shoe and much more)!
The world’s oceans provide us with life. Everything relies on the health of our oceans — from producing oxygen and providing habitats for an abundance of sea creatures, to furnishing an environment for the eco-tourism industry that generates income for thousands upon thousands of businesses globally — our world’s oceans make the world go ‘round.
It is important that we respect and care for this invaluable resource. As Sylvia Earle said, “No water, no life. No blue, no green.” The health of the entire planet relies on the health of the oceans. Trash and debris in our seas affects the animals that live there. Sea creatures will mistake plastic for food and ingest it; plastic fishing line and nets entangle, strangle and even amputate creatures’ limbs. It is our responsibility to keep this from happening.
When we participate in the American River Conservancy cleanup for our Reef Alliance day we help keep debris from our seas. Rivers ultimately reach the ocean, if we can stop even the smallest amount from reaching our seas we will be contributing to a stronger, healthier planet. We also believe it is important to educate the next generation about the significance of reducing, reusing and recycling — and to instill in them a deep love and understanding of our sea life and our oceans.
